The municipality of Santa Eugènia takes its name from Alqueria de Bernat de Santa Eugènia, a small medieval centre of population which belonged to the “alqueria” (farm) of Benibazari during the Islamic period.
Written evidence from 1250 contains a reference to the town including the full name of the landowner. But in documents from 1268 it is shortened to Alqueria de Santa Eugènia.
